About SAT in Ghana

Since its introduction in Ghana in March 2023, the Digital SAT has been structured into two main segments: Reading & Writing, and Mathematics. The test spans 2 hours and 14 minutes and is evaluated on a 400–1600 point scale.

The Reading & Writing portion of the Digital SAT employs a two-stage adaptive format, consisting of two modules, each with a 32-minute time limit. Participants must answer 25 operational questions and 2 pretest questions per module. These multiple-choice questions are based on brief passages covering literature, history/social studies, humanities, and science. The Reading & Writing section assesses four key areas: Standard English Conventions (11-15 questions), Expression of Ideas (8-12 questions), Craft and Structure (13-15 questions), and Information and Ideas (12-14 questions), with scores ranging from 200 to 800.

Similarly, the Mathematics section follows a two-stage adaptive model with two distinct modules. Each module presents 20 operational questions and 2 pretest questions, to be completed within 35 minutes. The format includes 75% multiple-choice questions and 25% student-produced responses, covering domains such as Algebra (13-15 questions), Advanced Math (13-15 questions), Geometry and Trigonometry (5-7 questions), and Problem-Solving and Data Analysis (5-7 questions). This section also has a scoring range of 200 to 800.

Candidates have the flexibility to take the digital SAT at various test centers using a broad array of devices, including personal laptops (compatible with Windows or MacOS), iPads, institution-owned desktops and laptops, as well as managed Chromebooks. For weekend test-takers without a personal device, the College Board offers a device loan service upon request.

SAT scores serve as a uniform benchmark for admissions committees to evaluate applicants for college entry and scholarship consideration. The dual metric of high school performance and SAT scores is widely recognized as a strong indicator of future academic achievement in higher education institutions.
